Fitness and nutrition have become important aspects of our daily lives today, but with it comes a lot of restriction that forces us to review our eating habits and be more proactive about what we put inside of our bodies. This isn’t a bad thing, by any stretch of the imagination, but it does mean that a lot of the things that most of us, when we were younger, were obsessed with are now given the big no-no. But there are a lot of us out there who have an insatiable sweet tooth that we simply cannot escape from. Good news is there are still healthy ways to satiate the sweet tooth while remaining true to your health and the quest for the perfect physique.
We’ve come up with a few ideas of our own, while getting some assistance from the experts on healthy, clean eating, to bring you a list that is to die for.
Chocolate strawberries
No, this isn’t only meant to be for romantic foodies who want to get a little inventive during their alone time. Any self-respecting person will know that you simply can’t shirk the juicy strawberry and that it is basically a sweet marauding as a healthy little (in some cases) berry.
Strawberries include folate, potassium, manganese, dietary fiber, and magnesium, as well as vitamin C. While dark chocolate has been known to lower cholesterol as it removes LDL and replaces it with good HDL.
Drench your strawberries in melted dark chocolate and you have yourself a super sweet, tasty snack that you might not be able to stop eating for an extended period of time.
Yogurt with berries, fruits, and nuts
It’s a well-known fact that Greek yogurt is healthy for you, containing a number of nutrients. It’s also a versatile and quick snack, and you can add in the healthy at will without any repercussions, save for it tasting a whole lot better.
Yogurt is high in amino acids and will keep you fuller for longer. The additions to your meal are also high in antioxidants, saturated fats, and vitamins, so it’s a pretty comprehensive breakfast meal.
If you’re feeling adventurous, you can add all of the blueberries, kiwi slices, and almonds that you desire. It makes for a great breakfast treat and will give you energy to start the day off.
A healthy smoothie with all your favourite ingredients
Smoothies are fantastic because you can put anything your heart desires into a blender and mash it all up. Bonus points for ensuring that you get your much-needed balanced diet all in one go – which isn’t too hard when you consider the possibilities.
Once you have everything in, blend it up. You can make a smoothie in accordance to your diet type from your DNAFit diet report.
Get it looking great with purple berries, adding to the flavour, a scoop of whey protein, milk, a smorgasbord of nuts, and fruits of your choice. Once it’s blended up, serve accordingly and devour.
French Toast
This is a classic that is hard to beat when it comes to easy-to-make snacks that you simply cannot resist. All you need is whole-wheat bread, eggs, and cinnamon to make it happen so it shouldn't be too hard to scrounge those ingredients out of the cupboard.
The appropriate way to do this is to add your whisked up batter to a simmering pan and place your bread on said batter according. Heat it up until it turns brown and sprinkle with cinnamon.
You’ll get an energy boost from the carbohydrates, and saturated fats found in eggs and milk – which also contain protein. You should eat this in moderation but it’s a safe bet if you’re peckish.
Strawberry and lemonade popsicles
If it’s hot out, then you’ll love this idea. We all need something to cool down in the heat and what better way to do it than to make it fun, rather than copying the typically boring way that people usually create these.
Stir up some tasty lemonade, place in holders, add strawberries, and freeze until they assume popsicle form. Now you have a tasty treat that everyone can enjoy and not feel guilty about.
You’ll be getting all the benefits of the strawberry that we’ve already talked about previously, while the fresh lemonade has, well, lemons, which contain vitamin C, vitamin B6, vitamin A, vitamin E, folate, niacin, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, copper, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, zinc, phosphorus and protein. Wow! That’s a lot.
Peanut butter pie
Peanut butter has proven to be a healthy option (while remaining a fan favourite) and is leading the way in terms of the “no-bake” trend that doesn't require an oven to make a tasty treat. You’ll need a whole lot of nuts to grind and mix with milk and eggs to make a dough.
Following that, simply add in the peanut butter and place in the freezer to set. And there you have it, a simple, delicious meal that’s bound to attract attention.
Peanut butter may be low in lysine but it’s very high in energy, packing in the saturated fats from unprocessed peanut butter with the nuts, and the always healthy eggs and milk.
Blueberry ice cream pie
Who doesn't like ice cream? If your hand is up, then don’t bother reading on. But if you got the answer right, and your hand has remained down, then get ready for a taste sensation that won’t destroy your healthy eating plan.
This one involves cooking, but the recipe is pretty straightforward and once you see how delicious you can make it while getting in a whole host of nutrients, you’ll be addicted to making it again and again.
The blueberries contain fiber, potassium, folate, vitamin C, vitamin B6 and phytonutrient content, coupled with its cholesterol-fighting power it’s a tasty snack that’ll inspire you to ascend a chef-level.
Sweet Potato Brownies
Sweet potatoes have swept over the world! They’re tasty, wholesome, can make loads of different dishes, and really hit the spot.
The antioxidants in dark chocolate blend well with the super powers of the sweet potato. It includes vitamin A (in the form of beta-carotene), vitamin C, manganese, and vitamin B6. Additionally, they are a good source of potassium, dietary fiber, niacin, vitamin B1, vitamin B2 and phosphorus.
And no, you haven’t read this incorrectly, instead of using flour you can make brownies that are, for lack of a better word, incredible, with sweet potatoes and a little bit of dark chocolate (this is necessary). Try it out, you’ll become a convert.
